چکیده

Recent advances in wireless communication systems have increased the throughout over wireless channels. Unipolar communications systems can transmit information using only real and positive signals. We consider two unipolar OFDM techniques such as FLIP-OFDM and ACO-OFDM. This includes a variety of physical channels ranging from optical, to RF wireless using amplitude modulation with non-coherent reception, to baseband single wire communications. Both the techniques enable to efficiently compensate frequency selective distortion in the unipolar communication systems. In this paper, FLIP-OFDM and ACO-OFDM have been compared and it has shown that both techniques have the same spectral energy, SNR and BER but FLIP-OFDM offers fifty percent saving in hardware complexity over ACO-OFDM.

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation

This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system.  In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...

Dimming Consideration for OFDM-Based Visible Light Communications

In the field of indoor wireless networks, visible light communications would be contributing a vital role in the future. This paper investigates the performances of data transmissions using visible light based on unipolar orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and discusses possible approach for light dimming. Asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM (ACO-OFDM) is considered as a unipolar...

Using WPT as a New Method Instead of FFT for ‌Improving the Performance of OFDM Modulation

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is used in order to provide immunity against very hostile multipath channels in many modern communication systems.. The OFDM technique divides the total available frequency bandwidth into several narrow bands. In conventional OFDM, FFT algorithm is used to provide orthogonal subcarriers. Intersymbol interference (ISI) and intercarrier interferen...

Comparisons of spectrally-enhanced asymmetrically-clipped optical OFDM systems.

Asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (ACO-OFDM) is a technique that sacrifices spectral efficiency in order to transmit an orthogonally frequency-division multiplexed signal over a unipolar channel, such as a directly modulated direct-detection fiber or free-space channel. Several methods have been proposed to regain this spectral efficiency, including: asym...
